Revolution
is a topical solution that prevents heartworm disease
in dogs and cats and also kills adult fleas and
prevent flea eggs from hatching.
We
highly recommned that all cats be started on Revolution as kittens.
Heartworm disease in cats
is a real, and often deadly, problem. Instead of using just a flea
control for your cat, use Revolution for more comprehensive health
care. It's a good product for dogs as well, but there are also other
effective heartworm control drugs for our canine friends. This is
the best one we've found so far for cats, especially for its ease
of use and ability to prevent a variety of concerns.
Here's
what else it can do for your pet.
- Effective
in treating ear mites in dogs and cats, usually after just one
dose;
- Treats
and controls sarcoptic mange in dogs after one
or two doses;
- Treats
roundworms and hookworms in cats;
-
Controls ticks in dogs.
Unfortunately,
it does not control hookworms or roundworms in dogs, but Pfizer
(the manufacturer) is continuing to do further studies in this area.
If you put your dog on Revolution and it's a puppy, senior dog,
or in a hook- or roundworm endemic area, we recommend doing stool
exams every 3 to 6 months.
Revolution
is applied in one spot on the pet's skin between the shoulder blades.
It's nongreasy and dries quickly. Best of all, bathing your pet
two hours after application does not affect its effectiveness.
Once
applied the drug, selamectin, enters the bloodstream following absorption
through the skin. Concentrations of the drug in the blood prevents
heartworm disease and kills intestinal parasites. Then it selectively
redistributes from blood to sebaceous glands in the skin. Its presence
there provides control of fleas and ticks.
It
is safe to use on puppies and kittens as young as 6 weeks of age,
and is safe for breeding males and females, pregnant and nursing
females, and heartworm-positive pets.
